Oh Happy Day!

Using my Verizon "smartphone" as a modem. We have been through 3 or is it 4, marina's claiming to have WIFI, but for one reason or another, it is currently not working. We have heard every excuse in the book.  One of the reasons we picked those marinas is because they advertised having WIFI available.  Then when we are all paid and in our slip, we find out that it hasn't worked yet, this season.  Thanks a lot.

But the Verizon mobile broadband for only $20.00 more than what our bill is now, is working fantastic, so far.  Great suggestion from Gale & Maureen.   Thanks for the advice.

So we had left Trempealeau on Friday May 27th at 9:45 heading for LaCrosse, WI.  The temps were cool with mostly cloudy skies.  The trip was approximately 17 miles and our average speed was about 5.5mph. We went through Locks # 6 & 7 and arrived in LaCrosse about 2:00.

We went through the railroad swing bridge just north of LaCrosse.

More video as we enter La Crosse Municipal Marina

Below is one of many huge beautiful homes along the Mississippi.

The barge below is empty.  When they are full they sit about 5 feet lower than this one.
According to Bob this is a "cool" old El Camino.

 The worlds largest six pack.

The King of Beers.

Very neat old house.  Read info in next photo below.  Unfortunately, they do not allow the public in the house.

Wicket & I made new friends.  Notice their little dog.

Statue of Hiawatha at the Riverfront Park in La Crosse.  Very big park all along the river and there is a nice museum and garden at the north end.  The snake in the last photo is sunning in the garden.  There were lots of water features and the garden was in sections, representing different countries around the world.  COOL!

Then on Sunday May 22, Susie's son Taylor, rode back to Lake Pepin with us. He then took our pickup back to Iowa with him, where it will be stored while we are gone. Later that week, we found out that a tornado had touched down in Minneapolis, only an hour north of Pepin and one had touched down on the south side of La Crosse as we drove back to Pepin, WI.  We had driven through hail & extremely heavy rain that afternoon, not knowing tornados were in the mix.  The first pic below is of the west shore of the Mississippi at La Crosse where the tornado came from crossed the river to the east.  (the second photo shows the east shore where the tornado continued eastward.

For pizza in La Crosse it has to be Big Al's Pizzaria.  I couldn't find a website for them but you can get information at their facebook page... http://www.facebook.com/pages/Big-Als-Pizza-La-Crosse/331240084950

Yummmmmy! and well worth the mile walk from the harbor.

Sounds like a fun adventure so far. I have been on that part of the river many times and it is some the best scenery.
We met you guys at the coffee shop in Trempealeau. We'll be following your blog. Our Suzie says HI!

Pat & Chris, So fun talking with you at the coffee shop. It is always fun to hear the adventures & experiences of other boaters. Hope to meet up with you somewhere on the water next time. Although, you'll have to head way further south. Hope you had a great time in Lake Superior. Wicket says "Hi" to Suzie.

Hi Marc, Next weekend we will probably be around the Savanna, IL or Sabula, IA area. We will be slowing down our pace because we want to be in Davenport, IA on July 2 & 3rd for the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival where our Des Moines friends will once again meet up with us. So if you'd like to try & meet up in Sabula next weekend, we can get in touch with you & make that happen.
