Scottsbluff, NE

Scottsbluff National Monument and the Oregon Trail

Wicket decided to attack the Longhorns pulling the covered wagon in the video below.
She'd run up to bite their ankles and knock her tooth on the hard plastic.
What a Goof!

A lady offered to take our picture.
How nice!

Boulder, CO

We left Glenwood Springs, CO at approximately 9:00a.m. on Wed. May 23rd.
We stopped for a ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad and then drove on up to Longmont, CO.
We stayed at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont from Wed. to Wed.  We chose this campground because it was the closest one to my sister's place in Boulder.
FUNNNNNN!

Georgetown Loop Railroad Video

My sister, Mary, made delicious breakfast burritos before going to the Memorial Day Race "Bolder Boulder".  It is a 10K which attracts many world class/olympic runners, as well as 3/4 the population of Boulder.

And then we parked the pickup trucks just on the east side of Boulder, took our bikes out and rode the bikes the rest of the way to the University football stadium.  The bike path was awesome.  We must have gone 5 miles minimum into the middle of the city and didn't cross any streets.  They built the bike path to pass under the streets.  Bob & I really had no idea where we were but we followed Dave & Mary.  Problem?  Mary & Dave would be leaving the stadium early because they had a tee off time to get to.  So Bob & I followed the bike path back east with many intersections & T intersections to choose from, but we made it back to our pickup truck with just a little mess up.  The last 1/2 mile we were suppose to turn & we went straight.  Thank goodness Bob looked up and said, "the truck is over there." Pointing to the right.  It was suppose to be on our left.  Oh, well.

Bolder Boulder Memorial Day

We left Longmont this a.m. and arrived for a 2 night stay in Scottsbluff, NE.
We are staying at the Riverside Campground in Scottsbluff.  It's really kind of nice sitting right next to a river.  We'll sightsee around the area tomorrow and then pack up again of Friday and head for the Black Hills/Badlands area.

Crystal Geyser - Green River, UT; Hanging Lake in Colorado

Hanging Lake and Spouting Rock
Hike which is 7 miles east of Glenwood Springs, CO
I have done this hike 3 or 4 times now.
The last time I did it, I was 10+ years younger.
Ouch.
It was Bob's first time.
The trail to Hanging Lake follows this really cool brook.

Below is a photo of spouting rock...

(Video below)

Hanging Lake and Spouting Rock is  just 7 miles east of Glenwood Springs on Interstate 70.
In 1.2 miles we went up 1050 ft.
I thought it was suppose to be an hour hike.
Not for us.  It was about 4 hours round trip.
But worth it.

We left Green River, UT on Sunday May 20,
but not before visiting the Crystal Geyser south of the city of Green River.
It is suppose to erupt every 14 - 16 hours and we missed it.
Makes you appreciate "Old Faithful".
Sorry about the wind.  It was blowing hard into the microphone.

Fossil Point - Green River, UT

About 12 miles south of town on a rough dirt/sand road, one is suppose to be able to find fossils.
We hiked until I started feelling icky.  (Probably lack of water) Then we had to turn around & head back to the truck where we had water and tootsie roll pops.We have the truck packed with water and hardier snacks now.  We will be prepared next time.

Canyonlands, UT

The Mesa Arch at Canyonlands, UT

And Bob saves us all from the falling Arch.

We had to wait for the lead car at the road construction area.
We were quite entertained by the prairie dogs.  You can hear Bob whistling to get them to move but it appears that it was a hypnotic sound.

On the Road Again- North to Interstate 70 to Green River, UT

This video is some footage of our return hike from "The Narrows".
Today (May 14th) we packed up everything and pulled out of Kanab, UT.

This afternoon we pulled into Shady Acres RV Park at Green River, UT.  It was approximately a 5 hr. drive. We got here about 3:30p.m.  We will be visiting Canyonland and Arches National Parks as well as, Crystal Geyser, Fossil Point and many other local attractions.  We will be at this location for the next 4 - 5 days before heading farther east into Colorado.

Some video below taken on the way to Green River, UT.

We went through one section of the interstate that had warnings of 6 miles of 6% grade and within that 6 miles there were 3 runaway truck ramps.  Our brakes were being tested on the steep winding slope.

Kanab, UT and Zion National Park

Kanab, UT has been the setting for many western movies and TV shows.  Gunsmoke was filmed just east of town and the old set is still sitting in a field.  They are on private property, so you can't walk around in them.  They have also, deteriorated badly over the past decades.
This restaurant/museum in town has collected several buildings, backdrops, items used in other movies and t.v. shows.  You can wander the buildings for free.
Filmed in or around Kanab, UT
The Outlaw Josie Wales

and about 16 more.  The list can be seen at the following link...

It was built in 1894 and the self-guided tour is free!

Skutumpah Road

We took this remote rode back to Kanab from Bryce Canyon.

Wow, what a ride.

If you are on this road and it begins to rain, you will likely not get back out until it drys up.
Well, you may be okay if you have a four wheel drive vehicle, but it was a bit hairy at times without rain in our F250 pickup truck. (no four wheel drive).

This whole area is a hiker's paradise.

Happy Birthday to Bob Schaut, today!

Point of Rocks to Grand Canyon Video

Catching up on posts, thanks to the great internet connection at the Hitch n Post RV Park in Kanab, UT.

We left Yuma, AZ on Thursday May 3rd and headed for Prescott, AZ for the night.
It was a short drive (only about 3.5 hours)

The video below was taken Saturday at the Grand Canyon, too.

Ooh Aah Point Grand Canyon
We only went to the first major point of interest.  It was a 1 hour (one way) hike down into the Canyon.  The entire hike was 2 days. We did this hike on Sunday and here it is Tuesday and our calves and thigh muscles still ache.
